First-Year Applicants

If you’re a high school senior, you’re in the midst of a very intense process — so we’ll try to make this as easy for you as possible. Find all you need to know about important dates, application requirements and plans, the coursework we look for on your transcript and other steps in applying to Stevens.

A first-year application should be submitted if you are a current high school student, or a high school graduate that has not been enrolled in a college or university since graduation. This includes students that have earned college credits through a high school and/or dual-enrollment curriculum.

Application Requirements

Submit the following to apply for admission to Stevens:

1. A completed application either via the Common Application or Coalition Application
2. Official high school transcript*
3. Test-optional through Fall 2026 first year student applicants. If you choose to submit test scores, you may self-report them on your application portal. Applicants to Music or Visual Arts & Technology, a portfolio is strongly encouraged.
4. Essay (included on your application)
5. Two letters of recommendation (teacher or school counselor recommendation preferred)
6. $75 application fee

*Official transcripts and recommendation letters must be submitted electronically from the institutions (via the Common App or Coalition app) or by email to [email protected] . Stevens cannot accept transcripts or recommendation letters submitted by students as official.

The Accelerated Pre-Medicine Program requires a Regular Decision application, but the deadline for submitting the application and all required materials is November 1.

Here are additional components of the application:

• Admissions interview - required for Accelerated Pre-Medicine applicants; optional for all other applicants
• Campus visit - recommended for all applicants
• College Scholarship Service Profile (CSS Profile) - required if you wish to be considered for Stevens financial aid
• Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA)* - required if you wish to be considered for need-based Stevens aid, federal aid or state aid

Recommended Coursework

Your academic record should show satisfactory performance in the following areas, depending upon your chosen major of study.

• For Engineering, Computer Science and the Applied Sciences:
  • Four years of English.
  • Four years of mathematics (one year of algebra; one year of geometry; one year of pre-calculus; and one year of calculus).
  • Three years of lab science (biology, chemistry and physics).
  • Four years of English.
  • Four years of mathematics (two years of algebra; one year of geometry; and one year of pre-calculus). Applicants to the Quantitative Finance program should have more extensive preparation in high school math with one year of calculus.
  • Three years of lab science (two of which must include biology, chemistry or physics).
  • Four years of English.
  • Three years of mathematics (two years of algebra and one year of geometry). Applicants to the Quantitative Social Science and Science, Technology & Society program should have more extensive preparation in high school math with one year of pre-calculus.
  • One year of lab science (either physics, chemistry or biology). Applicants to the Quantitative Social Science program should have two years of lab science (biology, chemistry and/or physics). Applicants to the Science, Technology & Society program should have more extensive preparation in high school science with three years of lab science (biology, chemistry and physics).
  • If you’re planning to pursue a secondary concentration in math or science, you should have more extensive preparation in high school math and lab science coursework.
  • Four years of English.
  • Four years of college prep mathematics.
  • Three years of lab science (biology, chemistry and physics).
  • We encourage you to pursue AP Biology and AP Chemistry, if possible.
  • Achieve a combined SAT score of 1400 (critical reading and math) or ACT composite of 32 in one sitting. Standardized tests must be completed prior to the November 1 application deadline and results must be submitted to Stevens via the testing agency to be considered in our review.

  Average GPA and Test Scores

  Stevens has no minimum GPA or test score requirement. Successful applicants in recent incoming classes had an average GPA of 3.8 (out of 4.0) and SAT scores in the range of 1400 to 1490. GPAs and test scores are only two indicators of your potential success at Stevens. We consider all of your application materials in making our admissions decisions.

  Stevens Institute of Technology will be extending its SAT/ACT test optional policy, with some exceptions, for first-year applicants applying for entry terms Fall 2025 and Fall 2026 and transfer applicants applying for entry terms between Spring 2025 and Fall 2026. The test optional policy will be re-evaluated after this period.

  If you are applying to our Accelerated Pre-Medicine or Pre-Law programs, test scores must still be submitted.

  Viewing your Application via the Student Portal

  After submitting your application, you will have access to your student portal. On your portal, you can view your application checklist, admission decision and all information relevant to your Stevens application. You will receive an email whenever an update is available on your portal.

  Once your application has been submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement from our office indicating that we received your application. Stevens will communicate with you via email to follow up on required supporting documents and other requests relevant to your application. When you submit an application for admission, you will be opted in to receive email communications from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to ensure that we can communicate effectively with you about the application process.

  The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will notify you of our admission decision by the date listed on the admissions timeline. If you’re admitted, you can then use your student portal to view financial aid information, reply to your offer of admission, and access enrollment documents.

  Homeschool Applicants

  To apply as a homeschool applicant, follow the same steps to apply as all Stevens first-year applicants. You do not have to present an equivalency diploma when you apply but if you are admitted, you will need to present proof of graduation before you enroll. Proof can be:

  • A homeschool diploma
  • A certificate of completion considered the equivalent of a high school diploma in your home state
  • Results from a GED or high school diploma equivalency test

  English Language Requirement for International Applicants

  All applicants must be capable of successfully completing a Stevens humanities course, which is required each semester. For that purpose, English language competence is generally indicated by one of the following:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 80
  • IELTS minimum overall score of 6.0
  • Duolingo English Test minimum score of 105
  • Pearson PTE Academic Test minimum score of 53
  • SAT 1 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing minimum score of 550
  • Native English speaker.
  • English proficiency waivers may be granted on a case by case basis for international students who have studied in the US for at least 3 years from the time of your application. Please contact the admissions office after submitting your application to request a waiver.
